The Technological Impact On Golf Clubs
There is an ongoing debate whether or not the technological advancements in sports equipment will actually make a person a better player. Natural talent is an inherent quality in most professional athletes. Therefore, do technological advancements accentuate that talent, or is the new and updated sports equipment just another marketing myth to get the amateurs and Sunday morning enthusiasts to purchase the latest hi-tech gadgets and gizmos? Both tennis racquets and golf clubs have seen significant technological advancements over the years. Golf clubs are lighter. The grips are different. The shafts are specifically designed to hit the ball farther. However, farther does not always mean a better shot, and whereas these advances contribute to an increase in distance, it does not mean the average golfer is going to hit the ball any straighter, or with any more accuracy than before. These technological advancements may change some dimensions of the games, but they are no substitute for practice and talent. If you are buying a driver, wedge, or putter based solely on its technological prowess, then there is a good chance that you do not want to put the time in on the links that it requires to improve your game.
